The Buffalo nickel, officially called the Indian Head nickel, was designed by sculptor James Earle Fraser and issued by the United States from 1913 through 1938. Its obverse features a Native American portrait, while the reverse shows an American bison—commonly called a buffalo—standing on a mound. The coin was made from a copper-nickel alloy containing 75% copper and 25% nickel. Fraser’s design reflected the early 20th-century interest in honoring the American West and the nation’s Indigenous and frontier history. The hand cut silhouette gives these earrings a distinctive, artisan-crafted appearance, while the original coin details preserve their vintage character. Natural variations in color, wear, texture, and patina make every pair unique. Turn a piece of early American coinage into a wearable conversation piece with these one-of-a-kind Buffalo nickel earrings, designed for anyone who loves meaningful jewelry, vintage details, and handmade craftsmanship.
